Professional Experience:

Hopeton’s practice includes advising clients on Intellectual Property (IP) issues and securing relevant IP rights. Hopeton has a wealth of experience working with Corporations of various sizes to develop and execute patent strategies resulting in very extensive and diverse patent portfolios.

A good portion of Hopeton’s practice concentrates on patent prosecution, working on all aspects of technologies related to existing and next generation wired and wireless communications systems, media production and distribution, and related technologies, including narrowband and broadband systems, access, infrastructure, transport and related user equipment (UE) and customer premise equipment (CPE) technologies including voice, video, data, and content processing. He has drafted and prosecuted patent applications in the United States, and foreign jurisdictions such as Japan, China, Korea, and Taiwan.

Before joining CHIP LAW GROUP, Attorney Hopeton Walker was a shareholder at a Firm where he led a team of over 30 attorneys and patent agents, and managed a portfolio of more than 6,000 patents and pending applications. He has utilized his prosecution experience to support activities such as standards organizations (SOs) and special interest groups (SIGs), licensing, litigation, patent harvesting, patent review committees, and infringement analysis and reverse engineering.

Hopeton has over a decade of experience counseling and training junior attorneys, engineers, and patent agents on prosecution practice. He has drafted and prosecuted several hundred applications in fields such as wireless and wired communications, video processing, Internet applications, gaming, social media, and television content management and advertising.

During his electrical engineering career, Hopeton worked on a variety of technologies, including 2G, 3G, 4G, WLAN, WPAN, and Ethernet, TCP/IP, and DOCSIS. He also has extensive software and hardware experience, including experience with embedded processor systems and tools.

Hopeton is a prolific inventor and his inventive activities as an engineer have resulted in 57 issued U.S. patents, over 17 pending U.S. patents, and numerous foreign patents. These patents cover a wide range of technologies, some of which include wireless access and transport, providing broadband and high bandwidth packet based voice, video, data and Internet related services and solutions to local access subscribers using various wireless, and wired access technologies such as xDSL over twisted pair, coaxial cable, and HFC.
